Co-sponsored by the School of Law and the Law School Admission Council, this symposium is in honor of Washington University Law Alumnus Philip Shelton, who is LSAC President, a former Washington University Dean and Professor, and a National Council Member. The symposium brings together distinguished panelists to discuss access to higher education and the professions, including socioeconomic and racial diversity issues, as well as related challenges among various disciplines. It is free and open to the public. More information
Shelton has served the American legal education community as a professor, dean, and administrator for more than 30 years. Since joining LSAC in 1993, he has worked with member law schools to expand access to legal education opportunities for underrepresented minorities, educationally disadvantaged persons, and people with disabilities.
The plaza in front of Brookings Hall has been renovated to commemorate the dedication of the Danforth Campus. Please click here for more information.
In Harold T. Shapiro's book, A Larger Sense of Purpose: Higher Education and Society, two major themes stand out: universities have a responsibility to serve current society, and they also have a responsibility to change society, to create progress. The three speakers in this fall's "Higher Sense of Purpose" lecture series have not only embraced these values but have dedicated their lives to shaping progress in their respective fields. All three are leaders in their fields and all have had a profound influence on our society — now global in scope. Please click here for more information.
"A Higher Sense of Purpose" is this year's theme for the dedication of the Danforth Campus, as well as for the Freshman Reading Program. In keeping with this theme, throughout the first semester, programming is being planned which will educate students and encourage them toward seeking their own "higher sense of purpose."
